#SCULPTURE #STRUCTURE
I was assigned to design a package and I chose “flower” as my packaging subject. Each package represents one kind of flower. When people see the package, they can clearly have an idea about what it is by looking at it. The reason of adopting folding technique to create a package structure is that by using the flexibility of paper, it creates an amazing sculpture-like visual effect.

This is my very first project when I get on board in Mandarin Communications Group (MCG), which is a coast-to-coast marketing and media company. I was mainly responsible for their seasonal Magazine Mandarin Quarterly. The images on the right side are some magazine layout examples I made while I was working at MCG.

It is a project about designing a catalog for the Japanese Arts exhibition held in The Museum of Modern Art. The idea of using red dots as the main visual component is because I want to bring out the concept of Japanese flag. Also, the reason why I used red and white is because these two colors are widely used in many other artworks throughout Japanese history. The color red in Japanese culture can be seen as an icon of the sun, and the color white is the symbol of pureness. The layout and the form are generated based on the Japanese aesthetic which is simple and clean.

It is a book that has two covers and allowed readers to read it from either way. The format of the book is inspired by the idea of bi-direction of canal transportation. The arrangement of sentences is a reflection of the concept of how the two cities Manhattan and Chicago were linked back in ancient day, when the natural canal paths still played an important role in transporting goods.

I was assigned to design a new poster for the Olympic event which was held in 1964 in Innsbruck. The dark blue background symbolizes winter and the stripes are designed to dissemble the logo of the venue.

I was asked to jump out of the stereotype of the existing calendar and create a calendar which combined subjectivitie and objectivitie concepts . It was challenging for me at first because it had to be legible and functional but unique at the same time. This is my approach: I wanted to create a calendar that looks different as usual, so the first thing I did was to rearrange the sequence of the days. You can see that there are ten days in a row which is different from the common used system in the calendar. The reason of choosing the number ten is because ten is still according to the most common-used number system-decimal system. Also, I pulled those holidays out from the month so people can clearly spot the important date of the month.
